Sunflower – The flower that follows the sun

🌻🌞

The common sunflower (Helianthus annuus, family Asteraceae) is a majestic annual plant, native to the Americas, that can grow up to 3 meters tall. Its name comes from its unique ability to follow the sun’s movement throughout the day. The inflorescence , which can measure up to 30 cm in diameter, is actually composed of hundreds of tiny flowers, called florets, arranged in a spiral.

🌻🌱

It blooms in summer and acts as a true magnet for pollinators! Bees, bumblebees, and other insects frequently visit its flowers, drawn by the abundant nectar and pollen.
